Jackson Wild, in partnership with Day’s Edge Productions and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, recently announced the selection of the 2023 Jackson Wild Media Lab Fellows. This science filmmaking workshop will be taking place in the epic Grand Teton National Park, as a key highlight of the 2023 Jackson Wild Summit.
The Media Lab is a rigorous filmmaking fellowship program for the next generation of scientists and content creators. Lisa Samford, Jackson Wild Executive Director, expresses her excitement about the chosen Fellows, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome this group of individuals and look forward to supporting them as they hone their storytelling skills in Jackson.”
This year, the Media Lab was slammed with over 200 applications. Out of these, only sixteen individuals were selected. This highly sought-after program is designed to nurture scientists and media creators, enhancing their abilities to craft engaging narratives about science, nature, and conservation.
Nate Dappen, Senior Producer at Day’s Edge Productions, is also eagerly anticipating the stories that will unfold from this year’s cohort, expressing, “We are eager to work with these talented fellows to see what kinds of stories they will tell, but what we look
forward to the most is watching their careers and collaborations blossom after the Media Lab is over.”
As part of their fellowship, the 2023 Media Lab Fellows will receive hands-on training in filmmaking and science communication, working closely with mentors and instructors. They will also expand their professional networks, connecting with industry professionals and peers. The pinnacle of their experience will be the creation of short films that will be premiered at a special event during the Jackson Wild Summit on Tuesday, September 26, at the Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park.
